A recent survey has highlighted ongoing concerns around qualification fraud within the construction industry. While 81% of construction workers recognise the importance of reporting suspected qualification fraud to maintain site safety, 78% remain unclear on how or where to report it.
The survey was carried out by Ofqual, the regulator of qualifications, exams, and assessments in England, in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). A total of 473 responses were received from across the construction sector.
Emma Scott, Director of Vocational and Technical Qualifications Delivery at Ofqual, stated:
“Construction workers recognise the importance of reporting suspected qualification fraud, which is committed by a small minority of people. However, the evidence shows that we need to make reporting channels clearer and emphasise that reports can be made confidentially.”
While respondents overwhelmingly agreed that reporting suspected qualification fraud is vital for protecting site safety, many acknowledged gaps in understanding the reporting process itself, particularly when it comes to identifying and reporting fake CSCS cards.
Our Commitment at Madiba Services UK
At Madiba Services UK, we recognise these gaps and take our responsibility seriously. We have internal verification mechanisms in place to ensure that all operatives’ CSCS cards and qualifications are checked and verified during the onboarding process, before placement on site.
We remain committed to playing our part in protecting:
• Site safety
• Client confidence
• The reputation of the wider construction industry
Any suspected fraudulent CSCS cards or qualifications can be reported directly to CSCS at intel@cscs.co.uk.
