Manchester, UK – The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced a targeted programme of inspections at construction sites across Manchester city centre this week, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve safety standards and reduce workplace accidents in the sector.

Inspectors will be visiting a range of sites, from high-rise residential developments to commercial refurbishment projects, focusing on key areas of risk that continue to cause serious injuries and fatalities in construction.

Focus on High-Risk Activities

According to the HSE, the inspection initiative will prioritise:

Construction remains one of the UK’s most dangerous industries, with falls from height accounting for a significant proportion of fatal injuries each year. HSE inspectors will assess whether employers are taking adequate steps to plan, manage and monitor work safely.

Ensuring Compliance

During visits, inspectors will review risk assessments, method statements, and on-site safety practices. Where serious breaches are identified, the HSE has the authority to issue improvement notices, prohibition notices, or, in the most severe cases, initiate prosecution proceedings.

An HSE spokesperson said the inspections are intended not only to enforce compliance but also to raise awareness and encourage a proactive approach to health and safety.

“Construction activity remains high in Manchester, and it is vital that companies prioritise the safety of their workforce. We will take action where standards fall short.”

Supporting Safer Growth

Greater Manchester and city centre continues to experience significant development, with multiple regeneration and infrastructure projects underway. The HSE’s latest inspection campaign aims to ensure that rapid growth does not come at the expense of worker safety.

At Madiba Services UK Ltd, we constantly remind ourselves of our legal duties to train, protect our workers and others who may be affected by construction activities, including members of the public.

We have encouraged our workers and subcontractors to report unsafe practices and to make use of available guidance to maintain high safety standards throughout their placement on site.

Further updates are expected following the completion of this week’s inspection programme.
